[BLOME, Richard, 1635-1705] : ALDERSGATE WARD AND ST. MARTINS LE GRAND LIBERTY : TAKEN FROM THE LAST SURVEY, WITH CORRECTIONS.

[London : for W. Innys & J. Richardson, J. & P. Knapton & others], 1755. An attractive antique map of the western fringe of the City of London, running south from the lower end of Goswell Street, past Barbican (now Beech Street), along Aldersgate Street and St. Martin’s le Grand, with Noble Street and Foster Lane to the east, St. Botolph Aldersgate and Little Britain to the west. The map is decorated with a baroque cartouche and the names of seventy-two smaller side-streets and alleys are given in a keyed index. Originally produced by Richard Blome in the late seventeenth century, the map remained unpublished until 1720, with the present version originally produced for the part-work edition of John Stow’s “A Survey of the Cities of London and Westminster” (London : 1754-1757).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 305 x 178mm (approx. 12” x 7”). Just a touch of tanning, but otherwise in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 37/054. Hyde (Ward Maps) 1/2.
