A pleasant and interesting antique print – old Copenhagen House at Islington, in turn ambassador’s residence, tavern and pleasure grounds, cricket ground and athletic track. Engraved from an earlier source and originally produced for the part-work “Old and New London” (London : 1873-1878).
Wood engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 112 x 147mm (approx. 4-3/8” x 5-3/4”). Text on verso. In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : THE DOUBLE LOCK, & EAST ENTRANCE TO THE ISLINGTON TUNNEL, REGENT’S CANAL. TO COLONEL DRINKWATER THIS PLATE IS MOST RESPECTFULLY INSCRIBED.

London : Jones & Co., 1827. A highly attractive antique print of the early industrial landscape – locks, bridge, tunnel, smoking chimneys and in the foreground two handsome Pickford’s barges. Engraved by Frederick James Havell (1801-1840) from an original pencil and water-colour drawing (now in the Museum of London) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. Originally produced for Shepherd’s part-work series “Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century” (London : 1827-1830).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 106 x 148mm (approx. 4-1/8” x 5-7/8”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 154/024.
