[BOWLES, John] : ST. BARTHOLOMEWS HOSPITAL. [London : 1724 (but later)]. A handsome antique print - a bird's-eye view of the famous hospital, its inner courtyards and the adjacent buildings. An engraved explanatory text (dated 1723) gives a brief description and history of the hospital - "it appears that in the year last past, 3,381 persons were cured & discharged". Originally produced as one of the "Several Prospects of the most noted Publick Buildings, in and about the City of London" published by John Bowles in 1724 - but here in a later impression on wove paper dating from the early nineteenth century. COLE, Benjamin : THE SOUTH PROSPECT OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW'S HOSPITAL / THE GENERAL PLAN OF THE NEW BUILDING ... / THE EAST PROSPECT. [London : 1756]. A handsome antique print - a composite design giving at the top the south elevation of Bart's Hospital, in the centre a ground plan of the intended new buildings, and at the foot the east elevation. Also incorporated in the design are the arms of the hospital and those of John Tuff, the eighteenth century treasurer. Owen (fl. 1796-1838) from an original study by the London draughtsman, engraver, printer and printseller, T. Prattent (fl.1790-1819), who had premises in nearby Cloth Fair. Originally produced for B. Lambert, "The History and Survey of London and its Environs from the Earliest Period ..." (London 1805-1806).
