A fine antique print - a prospect of Basle from the river - engraved by Edward John Roberts (1797-1865) from an original study by the much-admired painter and illustrator Birket Foster. Originally produced for Henry Mayhew's "The Rhine and its Picturesque Scenery" (London : 1856-1858).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 130 x 163mm (approx. 5-1/8" x 6-1/2"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[Frankfurt : 1685]. A striking antique print offering a pleasant panoramic image of seventeenth-century Basle - from the French mathematician, engineer and surveyor Allain Manesson-Mallet. Originally produced for Mallet's "Description de l'Univers" (Paris : 1683) and here in a slightly later impression produced for the German edition, published as "Beschreibung des Ganzen Welt-Kreisses" (Frankfurt : 1684-1685).
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 145 x 102mm (approx. 5-3/4" x 4"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.
