[London : Cassell, 1878]. A handsome antique print of the square - a coach and pair, men on horseback, etc. Drawn and lithographed by "Maclure & Macdonald" as a supplementary presentation plate for the part-work "Old and New London" (London : 1873-1878).
Lithograph on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 145 x 196mm (approx. 5-3/4" x 7-3/4"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

A very pleasant antique print - Halkin Street and the chapel of St. John, built by Robert Smirke, with Belgrave Square beyond - a coach and pair and fashionably attired pedestrian traffic. Engraved by Samuel Lacey (1786-1859) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. From Shepherd's part-work series "Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1827-1830).
