[London : 1768]. An antique map of Broad Street and Cornhill Wards in the City of London. Centred on Lothbury, Throgmorton Street and Threadneedle Street, the map extends from Cornhill and the upper end of Gracechurch Street in the south, northwards to London Wall via Broad Street and Bishopsgate. The principal buildings shown include the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, etc. The map (here in its earlier state, still showing Gresham College) is decorated with views of the now long-since demolished churches of St. Christopher Threadneedle Street, St. Bartholomew by the Exchange, and St. Bennet Fink, etc. Originally produced for the "London Magazine" for February 1768. Other maps in this series were engraved by Thomas Bowen and this would also appear to be his work.
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 179 x 231mm (approx.7" x 9-1/8"). Trimmed close; a few short nicks and a repaired tear extending 40mm (approx. 1-1/2 inches) into one image; old vertical folds, but still an attractive item. A guaranteed genuine antique map.
