[YOUNG, Robert S.] : MISSION AND PLAIN OF SAN FERNANDO. [Washington : 1857]. An attractive and uncommon antique print - a native American picks cactus fruit in the foreground - the old mission-house of San Fernando Rey de Espana (which gives its name to modern San Fernando in Los Angeles County) beyond. Originally produced for a volume of the House of Representatives' "Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean" (Washington : 1857), recording the work of the Williamson-Abbot Pacific Railroad Survey of 1855.
