GYFFORD, Edward, 1772-1834 : THE OAKS, SURRY, SEAT OF THE EARL OF DERBY. London : J. Stratford, 1806. An early nineteenth century antique print of the old house near Carshalton after which the horse race is named. The house, as improved by Robert Adam for the 12th Earl of Derby, from the landscaped park. Engraved by Samuel Turner Sparrow (fl.1773-1810) from an original drawing by Edward Gyfford. Originally produced for James Stratford's part-work series "London; being an Accurate History and Description of the British Metropolis and its Neighbourhood ... by David Hughson" (London 1805-1810).
