[ENGLISH SCHOOL] : COW CROSS BEING ST. SEPULCHER PARISH WITHOUT AND THE CHARTER HOUSE TAKEN FROM YE LAST SURVEY WITH CORRECTIONS. [London : 1720]. A handsome antique map of the area just north of Smithfield Market - from the River Fleet in the west (following the line of the modern Farringdon Road), to St. John's Gate to the north, and to Goswell Street in the east. Readily recognisable place names include Turnmill Street, Cowcross Street, St. John's Lane, St. John Street, and the cluster of buildings and gardens making up the Charterhouse. A keyed table gives the names of twenty-nine of the smaller rents, courts, inns and alleys. Originally produced for the 1720 edition of John Stow's "Survey of London".
