LONGMATE, Barak, 1738-1793 : LONDON.

London : R. Baldwin, 1773. A finely-worked small antique print - the heraldic arms of the City of London, flanked by their dragon supporters, shown between the arms of Westminster and Southwark. Engraved by the elder Barak Longmate, heraldic engraver and editor of "The Pocket Peerage", and originally produced for John Noorthouck's part-work "A New History of London including Westminster and Southwark" (London : 1772-1773).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 56 x 132mm (approx. 2-1/4" x 5-1/4"). A few faint marks to outer margins, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 51.

WOODING, John G. : VIEWS OF THE CITY GATES AS THEY APPEARED BEFORE THEY WERE PULLED DOWN, TOGETHER WITH THE OLD GATE AT WHITEHALL & TEMPLEBAR.

London : Alexander Hogg, 1784. A handsome antique print - views of the old gates of the City of London - Bishopsgate, Cripplegate, Ludgate, Newgate, Moorgate, Aldgate, Bridgegate and Aldersgate, together Temple Bar and Whitehall Gate, arranged on two rows and surrounded by an engraved border of festoons, garlands, swags and husks. Engraved by John G. Wooding (fl.1782-1791) and originally produced for Hogg's partwork publication "The New, Complete, and Universal History, Description and Survey of the Cities of London and Westminster" ostensibly written by "A Society of Gentlemen" and revised by William Thornton.
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 236 x 356mm (approx. 8-1/4" x 14"). A few faint marks and spots, mainly to outer margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 61/043.
