[AA, Pieter van der, 1659-1733] : [ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS, WARWICK LANE] L'ENTRÉE DU COLLÉGE ROYAL DES MEDECINS.

[Leiden : Pierre vander Aa, 1707]. An early and unusual eighteenth-century print of the old Royal College of Physicians (the building by Robert Hooke of 1672-1678 in Warwick Lane). The view is set within a trompe l'oeil setting of a print tacked to a wall. Originally produced for Pieter van der Aa's publication "Les Délices de la Grand'Bretagne" (Leiden : 1707).
Etching and line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 131 x 160mm (approx. 5-1/8" x 6-1/4"). Faint old folds, paper a little toned with age, but a fine and sharp impression in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 20/019.

[BOWLES, John, 1701-1779 - publisher] : COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS.

[London : 1724 (but later)] A handsome antique print - a view of the inner courtyard of the old Royal College of Physicians (the building by Robert Hooke of 1672-1678 in Warwick Lane). Below the image are seven lines of engraved explanatory text, describing the powers of the College "to search Apothecarys Shops, to see if their Drugs are good ... & can impose a Fine or Imprisonm.t on Quacks". Originally produced as one of the "Several Prospects of the most noted Publick Buildings, in and about the City of London ..." published by John Bowles in 1724 - but here in a later impression on wove paper dating from the early nineteenth century.
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 170 x 214mm (approx. 6-3/4" x 8-1/2"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 28/024.

[COLE, Benjamin, 1697?-1783] : THE COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS IN WARWICK LANE.

[London : for T. Osborne & J. Shipton; and J. Hodges, 1756]. A handsome antique print - the courtyard of the Royal College of Physicians as it stood in the eighteenth century. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland's "History of London" (London : 1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 137 x 232mm (approx. 5-3/8" x 9-1/8"). A few minor marks, trimmed tight at foot, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 38/083A.

London : W. Clarke, 1817. A charming small antique map - Charterhouse, Smithfield, Newgate Street and Ludgate Hill. A vignette view of the old Royal College of Physicians completes the design. Drawn and engraved by John Greig (fl.1798-1839) and originally produced for the part-work publication "Walks through London, including Westminster and the Borough of Southwark" (London : 1816-1817).

[London : Jones & Co., 1830]. A charming small antique print - a view up a busy Warwick Lane towards the old Royal College of Physicians (built by Robert Hooke in 1672-1678). The "Jolly Butchers" on the corner of Warwick Lane and Warwick Square offers "cordial gin". Engraved by William Wallis (fl.1816-1855) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. From Shepherd's series "London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1829-1832).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 119 x 70mm (approx. 4-5/8" x 2-3/4"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 161/017.
