CARY, John, 1755-1835 : A NEW MAP OF DEVONSHIRE, DIVIDED INTO HUNDREDS, EXHIBITING ITS ROADS, RIVERS, PARKS &C.

London : J. Cary, 1828. A handsome map of Devon on a scale of something just over four miles to the inch - the hundreds delicately coloured in typical Cary style.
Copper line engraving on paper. Full original hand colour. 485 x 545mm (approx 19-1/8" x 21-1/2"). Dissected and mounted on linen and folding into the original marbled slip-case, with Cary's yellow printed label; case a little rubbed and slightly split; mild spotting and tanning to map and linen, but overall a very good copy. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

[London : For J. Tonson & J. Watts, 1718]. A delightfully engraved scroll-style road map from the scarce early set of road maps published as "A Pocket Guide to the English Traveller". The road from Bristol via Wells, Glastonbury, Greinton, Middlezoy, Lyng, Durston, Taunton, Wellington, Cullompton and Bradninch to Exeter. The map is dedicated to the Hon. Francis Drew.
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 179 x 270mm (approx. 7-1/8" x 10-3/4"). A fine unfolded impression, very lightly browned, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

[London : for J. Tonson & J. Watts, 1718]. A delightfully engraved scroll-style road map from the scarce early set of road maps published as "A Pocket Guide to the English Traveller". The road from Exeter to Ilfracombe via Crediton, Chulmleigh and Barnstaple, with additional sections showing Ilfracombe to Bideford and Bideford to Great Torrington. The map is dedicated to the Hon. John Basset.
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 177 x 269mm (approx. 7" x 10-1/2"). A fine unfolded example, cropped close at head, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

ANTIQUE MAP : ENVIRONS OF PLYMOUTH & DEVONPORT.

[MOULE, Thomas, 1784-1851] : ENVIRONS OF PLYMOUTH & DEVONPORT.

[London : 1834 (but later)]. A fine antique map of the country some ten miles round Plymouth - taking in Calstock, Saltash, Plympton, Newton Ferrers, etc. Originally engraved by John Crane Dower (fl.1820-1847) for the part-work "English Counties Delineated" (London 1830-1837) prepared by the antiquary Thomas Moule. Decorated with the arms of the city, a patterned border, and a vignette view of the Citadel. Originally engraved in 1834, the present version, showing slight revision, is dated to about 1842.
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 198 x 260mm (approx. 8" x 10-1/4"). Short nick into one margin, but otherwise in fine and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.
