CLARKE, W.B. (William Barnard) : EDINBURGH. London : Baldwin & Cradock, 1834. A finely worked town-plan of Edinburgh, giving good detail at a scale of some eight inches to the mile. With an inset view of the castle and detail of the proposed extension off Leith Walk. Arrayed along the lower edge of the map are thumbnail elevations of the principal buildings. Engraved by Edmund Turrell (fl.1815-1838) from a drawing by the architect W.B.Clarke, as part of a series produced for the "Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" (1831-1843). SOLD |

A striking antique print offering a pleasant panoramic image of seventeenth-century Edinburgh - from the French mathematician, engineer and surveyor Allain Manesson-Mallet.
