BARTHOLOMEW & CO., John : [COVER TITLE] PATTISONS' CYCLISTS' ROAD MAP OF HEREFORD, WORCESTER, GLOUCESTER, OXFORD, ETC. Leith : Pattisons, [ca.1897]. A charming map of the Cotswolds and beyond (centred more or less on Gloucester and extending - on a scale of ten miles to the inch - to Stourport in the north, east to Brackley, south to Bath, and west to Cardiff), with the roads suitable for cycling marked in red. Issued as one of a promotional series by the Leith distillery, producers of Pattisons Royal Gordon Scotch Whisky, etc. - with images of their premises and products surrounding the map. The reverse has a series of further images demonstrating the use and benefit of Pattisons while cycling, golfing, curling, hunting, coaching, yachting, shooting and fishing. BERGHAUS, Hermann, 1828-1890 : CHART OF THE WORLD ON MERCATORS PROJECTION. Gotha : Justus Perthes, 1871. The seventh revision of this standard nineteenth-century wall-chart, originally published in 1863 and specifically designed for the British market to show "the lines of oceanic mail steam communication and overland routes, the international aerial and submarine telegraphs; and the principal tracks of sailing vessels; showing some continental surface characteristics, the oceanic currents and important deep-sea soundings", etc. Twenty-five inset maps and plans add more detail of air currents, magnetic variation, projected canals, overland crossings, the principal ports, etc. £750 To confirm availability and to purchase this map please note the stock number 31722 and go to the database. BOWLES, Henry Carington, 1763-1830 & CARVER, Samuel : BOWLES'S ROAD DIRECTOR THROUGH ENGLAND AND WALES; BEING A NEW AND COMPREHENSIVE DISPLAY OF THE ROADS AND DISTANCES FROM TOWN TO TOWN, AND OF EACH REMARKABLE PLACE FROM LONDON. London : Bowles & Carver, 1800. An attractive and clearly engraved map of England and Wales, with southern Scotland (below Inverary) and the west coast of Ireland, neatly distinguishing between the principal leading roads, the great roads, and two classes of lesser roads. Distances are given from town to town, distances from London for the major towns, and distances are also given for the major sea crossings. The English and Welsh counties are individually delineated and coloured, and the design is completed by an attractive cartouche of coach, coachmen, saddle, whips, lantern and post-horn. SOLD |

CHEFFINS, Charles F. (Charles Frederick), 1808?-1861 : CHEFFINS'S MAP OF THE ENGLISH & SCOTCH RAILWAYS. London : Charles F. Cheffins, [1844]. Fourth edition. A map of England and Wales at a scale of some fourteen miles to the inch, showing the incipient railway system, careful distinction being made between railways already open (in black), railways being built or for which an Act of Parliament had already been obtained (in red), and railways under proposal (in blue). Part of Scotland, showing the Ayr, Glasgow, Edinburgh line, with spurs to Greenock and Dalziel, is given in a separate inset, while the further extremities of Cornwall are accommodated on an additional flap. The map was first published in 1842, with the present example clearly dated August 1844 in manuscript. SOLD |

A separately published version of the Hall map originally issued in November 1831 with the John Gorton part-work "A Topographical Dictionary of Great Britain and Ireland".
