ALLOM, Thomas, 1804-1872 : TREFFRY-HOUSE, FOWEY, CORNWALL. THE SEAT OF J. F. AUSTIN ESQ. TO WHOM THIS PLATE IS RESPECTFULLY INSCRIBED BY THE PUBLISHERS. London : Fisher, Son & Co., 1831. A pleasant antique print - a variant state of the plate also issued as "Place-House, Fowey" (see above) - the grand old house from the path below. It was owned by the local mining and shipping entrepreneur, Joseph Thomas Austen (1782-1850) - "the king of mid-Cornwall", who subsequently changed his name to Treffry to honour his mother's family, the orginal owners of the estate. Engraved by William Alexander le Petit (fl.1829-1855) from an original study by the gifted Thomas Allom.
