It was owned by the local mining and shipping entrepreneur, Joseph Thomas Austen (1782-1850) - "the king of mid-Cornwall", who subsequently changed his name to Treffry to honour his mother's family, the orginal owners of the estate. Engraved by William Alexander le Petit (fl.1829-1855) from an original study by the gifted Thomas Allom. Originally produced for the part-work series "Cornwall Illustrated" (London 1830-1832).
