[ENGLISH SCHOOL] : A VIEW OF GUILDHALL IN KING STREET, LONDON.

London : 1751. A handsome engraving of the eighteenth century Guildhall, with a cluster of elegantly dressed visitors dominating the foreground. A keyed index identifies the individual parts of the complex of buildings around the courtyard. Originally produced to accompany the "Gentleman's Magazine" of January 1751. The print is known in two slightly different forms (presumably the circulation of the magazine had reached a size where duplicate plates had become necessary). The present example is the variant where the gentleman doffing his hat in the centre of the image has a larger head and his leading foot does not touch the border.
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 193 x 225mm (approx. 7-5/8" x 9-3/8"). Faint wear to the original vertical folds, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

"Hughson" was in fact the pseudonym of David Pugh.
