CONEY, John, 1786-1833 : ST. GEORGE'S HANOVER SQUARE, WESTMINSTER. London : J. Booth, 1814. A handsome antique print - St. George Hanover Square as it stood in the early nineteenth century. Engraved by Joseph Skelton (1781?-1850) from an original drawing by John Coney. Originally produced for the part-work series "Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views" (London : 1810-1823) - "the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building" (Adams). [CRAIG, William Marshall] : HANOVER SQUARE : WATER CRESSES. [London : Richard Phillips, 1804]. An attractive and unusual antique print - a street-vendor cries his water-cress at a penny a bunch in Hanover Square. The large house behind him is the town-house of Lord Harewood. Engraved from an original study by William Marshall Craig (fl.1788-1828), water-colour painter to Queen Charlotte. Originally produced for Phillips' part-work "Modern London : Being the History and Present State of the British Metropolis" (London : 1804), but here in a slightly later impression with the outer ruled border, imprint and credit burnished out.
