[ENGLISH SCHOOL] : FORMERLY THE RESIDENCE OF SIR RICHARD STEEL, HAVERSTOCK HILL, HAMPSTEAD, MIDDLESEX.

[London : L. Tallis ca. 1850]. A very attractive antique print of early nineteenth-century Haverstock Hill – St. Paul’s and the city beyond – the old house once lived in by the author, wit and politician, Sir Richard Steele (1672-1729). The cottage was demolished in the 1860s, but Steele’s Road and Steeles Mews commemorate the location. Originally produced for Thomas Dugdale’s part-work survey published as “The Curiosities of Great Britain” or “England Delineated” in various formats between 1838 and 1860.

[London : 1878 (or later)]. An antique print of the old house once lived in by the author, wit and politician, Sir Richard Steele (1672-1729). This building was demolished in the 1860s, but Steele’s Road and Steeles Mews commemorate the location. From a study by William Henry Prior. Originally produced for the part-work “Old and New London” (London : 1873-1878).
Wood engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 144 x 210mm (approx. 5-5/8” x 8-1/4”). Text on verso. In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[London : Charles Tilt, 1829]. A very attractive antique print of early nineteenth-century Haverstock Hill, showing the broad road and the old house once lived in by the author, wit and politician, Sir Richard Steele (1672-1729). This building was demolished in the 1860s, but Steele’s Road and Steeles Mews commemorate the location. Engraved by Edward Francis Finden (1791-1857) from an original study by William Westall A.R.A. Originally produced for the part-work series “Great Britain Illustrated” (London : 1828-1830).
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 94 x 145mm (approx. 3-3/4” x 5-5/8”). Just a touch dusty, but overall in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.
