An elegant antique print - the imposing interior of Hexham Abbey (the Priory and Parish Church of St. Andrew) seen from the north-west corner of the transept. Engraved by James Sands (fl.1832-1861) from an original study by the gifted Thomas Allom. CARMICHAEL, James Wilson, 1800-1868 : BYWELL HALL, NORTHUMBERLAND : THE SEAT OF T. W. BEAUMONT ESQR. M.P. Alnwick : W. Davison, 1830. A handsome and rare print of the eighteenth-century hall, sold together both with its pair, "Chain Bridge, over the South Tyne, at the West Boat near Hexham, Northumberland" (1829) and the original publisher's [ca. 1829] prospectus for the two prints - "Now engraving, in a superior style, by Mr. Kerr ...". Both prints were engraved by James Kerr of Glasgow (fl.1825-1854), the first from a drawing by the Newcastle artist James Wilson Carmichael, the second from a study by the noted local surveyor and civil engineer, Thomas Sopwith (1803-1879). £250 To confirm availability and to purchase this print please note the stock number 30920 and go to the database.
