London : G. W. Bacon, [1900]. A clearly arranged map on a scale of around nine inches to the mile - a portion of North London centred on Canonbury Station, extending north to Clissold Park, south to Hoxton, and taking in Highbury, Canonbury, Kingsland, De Beauvoir Town, etc. Originally produced as Sheet 38 of the 1900 edition of "Bacon's Large Scale Atlas of London and Suburbs".
Lithograph on paper, with original hand colour. Printed surface 480 x 340mm (approx. 19" x 13-3/8"). Slight furl to central horizontal fold, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

[ENGLISH SCHOOL] : HIGHBURY COLLEGE, ISLINGTON. MIDDLESEX.

[London : 1860]. A small antique print of Highbury College - designed by John Davies, opened in 1826 and destroyed by fire in 1946. Part of the grounds were sold to Arsenal Football Club in 1913, and the site of the college itself is marked by a garden in Aubert Park. Originally produced for Thomas Dugdale's part-work survey published as "The Curiosities of Great Britain" or "England Delineated" in various formats between 1838 and 1860.

[London : 1852]. A small antique print - the exterior of Highbury College - designed by John Davies, opened in 1826 and destroyed by fire in 1946. An engraving from the workshop of A.H.Payne, originally produced for Payne's "Illustrated London, or a Series of Views in the British Metropolis and its Vicinity" (London : 1846-1847), and here in a slightly later impression.

London : Jones & Co., 1827. An attractive antique print - the classical portico and wings of the independent theological college designed by John Davies, opened in 1826 and destroyed by fire in 1946. Part of the grounds were sold to Arsenal Football Club in 1913, and the site of the college itself is marked by a garden in Aubert Park. Engraved by Thomas Dale (fl.1818-1828) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd. Originally produced for Shepherd's series "Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1827-1830).

SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : THE NEW CALEDONIAN ASYLUM. TO THE FANCY-GIFTED SIR WALTER SCOTT, BART. THIS PLATE IS RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED.

London : Jones & Co., 1828. An attractive antique print - the old Royal Caledonian Asylum on the Caledonian Road (on the site of the modern Caledonian Estate) topped with its statue of St. Andrew and the Royal Arms of Scotland. The asylum was originally instituted in Hatton Garden in 1815 "for supporting and educating the children of soldiers, sailors, marines, &c. natives of Scotland, or born of indigent Scottish parents resident in London". The children's Highland dress in Royal Stewart tartan excited much local comment. Engraved by Thomas Barber (fl.1818-1846) from an original study (now in the Museum of London) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd. From Shepherd's series "Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1827-1830).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 100 x 141mm (approx. 4" x 5-5/8"). A few minor marks to outer blank margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 154/120.

Originally produced for the John Tallis part-work "Tallis's Illustrated London; in Commemoration of the Great Exhibition of All Nations in 1851. Forming a Complete Guide to The British Metropolis and its Environs" (London 1851-1852).
