Part of the grounds were sold to Arsenal Football Club in 1913, and the site of the college itself is marked by a garden in Aubert Park. SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : THE NEW CALEDONIAN ASYLUM. TO THE FANCY-GIFTED SIR WALTER SCOTT, BART. THIS PLATE IS RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED. London : Jones & Co., 1828. An attractive antique print - the old Royal Caledonian Asylum on the Caledonian Road (on the site of the modern Caledonian Estate) topped with its statue of St. Andrew and the Royal Arms of Scotland. The asylum was originally instituted in Hatton Garden in 1815 "for supporting and educating the children of soldiers, sailors, marines, &c. natives of Scotland, or born of indigent Scottish parents resident in London". The children's Highland dress in Royal Stewart tartan excited much local comment. Engraved by Thomas Barber (fl.1818-1846) from an original study (now in the Museum of London) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd.
