[CRAIG, William Marshall] : HYDE PARK CORNER : A SHOWMAN. [London : Richard Phillips, 1804]. An attractive and unusual antique print - a one-legged street entertainer with his raree-show at Hyde Park Corner. The show-box consisted of a series of coloured pictures viewed through magnifying lenses, the showman rehearsing the narrative and changing the scene with hidden strings. On the top of the portable box a squirrel in a treadmill rings a row of little bells. Engraved from an original study by William Marshall Craig (fl.1788-1828), water-colour painter to Queen Charlotte.
