[London : George Virtue, 1843 (or later)]. One of the most attractive of all maps of the island, engraved by James Bingley (fl.1822-1840) for the part-work “English Counties Delineated” (London 1830-1837) prepared by the antiquary Thomas Moule (1784-1851). Decorated with an extravagant “gothick” architectural border, coats of arms and a vignette panorama of Mona presiding over stormy seas. Originally engraved in 1833, the present edition is re-dated to 1843. The map is illustrated in both Gohm’s “Antique Maps” and in Booth’s “Looking at Old Maps”.
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 192 x 265mm (approx. 7-5/8” x 10-1/2”). In fine and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.
