[London] : 1755. A fine eighteenth century map of Lime Street Ward in the heart of the City of London. The area covered extends north from Fenchurch Street across Leadenhall Street and via St Mary Axe to Camomile Street and Houndsditch. It includes the old Leadenhall Market, East India House (on the site of the modern Lloyd's Building) and the churches of St Andrew Undershaft and Great St Helen. The map is decorated with a rococo cartouche, a compass rose, the arms of the contemporary alderman (John Porter) and an elevation of the Leadenhall. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland's "History of London" (London : 1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 238 x 356mm (approx. 9-3/8" x 14"). Slight nick to upper margin, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Hyde (Ward Maps) 89.
