From an original design by the painter and illustrator William Luker. Engraved in Paris by Ch. Guillaume & Cie. for the Leadenhall Press publication "London City" (1891).

Originally published with the "Illustrated London News" of 20th January 1877.

Originally produced for the part-work "Old and New London" (London : 1873-1878).

A delightful antique print - a bustling street scene, with the Blackwall omnibus, carriages, and fashionably dressed pedestrians in front of the imposing facade of old East India House, at the corner of Leadenhall Street and Lime Street (the site of the present Lloyd's building). Engraved by William Wallis (fl.1816-1855) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. From the scarce part-work series generally known as "The World's Metropolis, or Mighty London, Illustrated by a Series of Views Beautifully Engraved on Steel" (London 1851-1855).
