[London : ca.1843]. A rare and unusual antique print - students in various states of apprehension study their examination papers - quill pens at the ready - assorted antiquities on a shelf above. Engraved by George Henry Adcock (fl.1831-1849) from an original painting by Robert William Buss.
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 119 x 185mm (approx. 4-3/8" x 7-1/4"). Trimmed a little close to image, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[PAYNE, Albert Henry, 1812-1902] : THE LONDON UNIVERSITY [UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON].

[London : J. Tallis & Co., 1852]. A very pleasant antique print of the imposing facade and courtyard of the original London University (now University College, London) built by William Wilkins in 1827-1829. An engraving from the workshop of A. H. Payne, originally produced for Payne’s “Illustrated London, or a Series of Views in the British Metropolis and its Vicinity” (London : 1846-1847), and here in a slightly later impression.
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 91 x 139mm (approx. 3-5/8” x 5-1/2”). Trimmed tight at foot, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 207/110.

SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : THE LONDON UNIVERSITY [UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON].

London : Jones & Co., 1828. A pleasant antique print of the impressive facade and courtyard (built by William Wilkins in 1827-1829) of the original London University (now University College, London). Engraved by William Wallis (fl.1816-1855) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. From Shepherd's series "Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1827-1830). The plate is dedicated to Henry Brougham and Thomas Campbell, in recognition of their efforts in founding the University.
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 102 x 159mm (approx. 4" x 6-1/4"). A few faint marks to blank margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 154/108.

[London : 1878 (or later)]. An antique print depicting the pillared facade of University College, built in 1827-1829 to the design of William Wilkins - pedestrians passing on Gower Street. Engraved by Joseph Swain (1820-1909) from an original sketch by Frank Watkins (fl.1859-1894). Originally produced for the part-work "Old and New London" (London : 1873-1878).
Wood engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 143 x 211mm (approx. 5-5/8" x 8-1/4"). Text on verso. In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.
