London : Richard Phillips, 1804. A most attractive and unusual antique print – an itinerant seller of gaily-coloured band-boxes, manufactured by himself and his family, the cheaper ones made from paste-board, the more expensive from deal and furnished with locks and keys. Behind him is the well-known children’s bookshop of Benjamin Tabart at 157 New Bond Street (on the corner of Grafton Street). Engraved from an original study by William Marshall Craig painter to Queen Charlotte. Originally produced for Phillips’ part-work “Modern London : Being the History and Present State of the British Metropolis” (1804).
Etching, line and stipple engraving on paper. Original hand colour. Engraved surface (including quadruple-rule outer border) 133 x 104mm (approx. 5-1/4” x 4-1/8”). A few tiny spots and specks to outer blank margins, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 89/025.

Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 162 x 241mm (approx. 6-3/8” x 9-1/2”). Trimmed a little tight at sides; very faint vertical fold; a few very minor marks, but overall in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 26/033.
