BROMLEY, Clough William, 1851?-1906 : MERTON ABBEY.

[London : Cassell & Co.], 1884. A pleasant antique print - not in fact the Abbey, but the old Dutch-style house of yellow brick next to the printing mills, then occupied by the Littler family - headed by William and Edward Littler, the silk-printers. Engraved from an original study by Clough Bromley and originally produced for the part-work "Greater London : A Narrative of its History, its People and its Places", published between 1882 and 1884.
Wood engraving on paper. Engraved surface 102 x 144mm (approx. 4" x 5-5/8"). Text on verso. In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[London : Privately published, 1824]. A scarce and handsome antique print of the ancient parish church of St. Mary the Virgin at Merton. Below the image is a simple ground plan of the church. Lithographed from a study by Charles Burton and originally produced for Charles Thomas Cracklow's "Lithographic Views of all the Churches and Chapels of Ease in the County of Surrey" 1823-1824. Printed by Peter Simonau of Essex Street, off the Strand.
Lithograph on paper. Principal image area 179 x 187mm (approx. 7" x 7-3/8"). Paper unevenly browned with age; a few small marks and spots, but otherwise in good state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

ELLIS, William, 1756-1810 : MERTON.

London : J. Stratford, 1806. A charming antique print of the Norman parish church of St. Mary in a bucolic setting, with haystacks in the foreground. Engraved by F. Haydon from an original drawing by William Ellis. Originally produced for James Stratford's part-work series "London; being an Accurate History and Description of the British Metropolis and its Neighbourhood ... by David Hughson" (London : 1805-1810). "Hughson" was in fact the pseudonym of David Pugh.
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 110 x 168mm (approx. 4-1/4" x 6-5/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.
