SHEPHERD, George Sidney, 1784-1862 : ST. MILDRED'S, POULTRY. UNITED WITH ST. MARY COLECHURCH. London : J. Booth, 1812. A handsome antique print - a busy scene of the Poultry in the early nineteenth century, with the old Wren church of St. Mildred - long since demolished. Engraved by Joseph Skelton (1781?-1850) from an original drawing by George Sidney Shepherd. Originally produced for the part-work series "Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views" (London : 1810-1823) - "the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building" (Adams). An antique print - a pleasant view of the busy street and the old Wren church on the north side of the Poultry. Opposite the church, the premises and sign of [Robert] Maynard & Co., outfitters and agents, at 27 Poultry are given some prominence to the left of the print. Engraved by J. Gough from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (1793-1864), the master recorder of nineteenth-century London.
