BARBER, Thomas : SANDROCK HOTEL.

London : Simpkin & Marshall, [1834]. A pleasant antique print – a view across the gardens to the old Royal Sandrock Hotel. Engraved by William Wallis (fl.1816-1855 – his name here mis-spelt Willis) from an original study by Thomas Barber (fl.1818-1840). Originally produced for Barber’s “Picturesque Illustrations of the Isle of Wight” (London : 1834).
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 102 x 148mm (approx. 4” x 5-7/8”). A couple of small and faint marks, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[London : Simpkin & Marshall, 1834]. A pleasant antique print – vistitors stroll in the gardens of the old Royal Sandrock Hotel – a man consults a book in the foreground. Drawn and engraved by Thomas Barber (fl.1818-1840), with the assistance of John Francis Salmon (1808-1886). Originally produced for Barber’s “Picturesque Illustrations of the Isle of Wight” (London : 1834).
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 106 x 149mm (approx. 4-1/4” x 5-7/8”). A couple of tiny marks to outer margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

Wootton Common : George Brannon, 1835. An attractive view of the tiny church at Niton – a view from below, two cottages to the right, the cliffs above. Drawn, engraved and published by the Irish-born artist, George Brannon.
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 180 x 238mm (approx. 7” x 9-3/8”). A couple of tiny marks to margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

A charming antique print – the romantic thatched cottage on the Undercliff – "a delicious retreat, embellished with every indication of real taste" – built by George Arnold of Ashby Lodge, Northamptonshire, and occupied for many years after by his widow, Henrietta Jane Arnold. Etched by William Bernard Cooke and originally published in his “New Picture of the Isle of Wight”.
Etching on paper. Engraved surface 95 x 157mm (approx. 3-3/4” x 6-1/4”). Faint diagonal crease across upper blank corner, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.
