DAVIES, B.R. (Benjamin Rees) : BOSTON WITH CHARLESTOWN AND ROXBURY.

London : Charles Knight & Co., [ca.1845]. A finely worked town-plan of Boston (population then 85,000), giving good detail at a scale of nearly four inches to the mile. Engraved by the London mapmaker Benjamin Rees Davies (fl.1811-1869) and first published in 1842, as part of a series produced for the "Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" (1831-1843) - and here in a slightly later impression.
Steel line engraving on paper, with original outline hand colour. Engraved surface 377 x 302mm (approx. 14-7/8" x 11-7/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

A finely worked town-plan of old New York - from the Battery to 42nd Street, with parts of Brooklyn, Williamsburgh and Jersey City - giving good detail at a scale of nearly four inches to the mile. Decorated with vignette views of Broadway and City Hall. First published in 1840, as part of a series produced for the "Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" (1831-1843) - and here in a slightly later impression.
Steel line engraving on paper, with original hand colour. Engraved surface 313 x 370mm (approx. 12-1/4" x 14-1/2"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

Vignette views of the United States Bank and the Philadelphia Exchange decorate one border. Originally published as part of a series produced for the "Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge" (1831-1843).
