[BLOME, Richard, 1635-1705] : PORTSOKEN WARD BEING PART OF THE PARISH OF ST. BUTTOLPHS ALDGATE, TAKEN FROM THE LAST SURVEY, WITH CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS.

[London : for W. Innys and J. Richardson, J. &. P. Knapton and others], 1754. A fine antique map of Portsoken Ward at the eastern edge of the City of London, taking in The Minories, Petticoat Lane, Houndsditch, Whitechapel (Aldgate High Street) and St. Botolph Aldgate. The map is decorated with a wreathed cartouche and a numbered index gives the names of over eighty of the smaller courts and alleys. Originally produced by Richard Blome in the late seventeenth century, the map remained unpublished until 1720, with the present version originally produced for the part-work edition of John Stow's "A Survey of the Cities of London and Westminster" (London : 1754-1757).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 302 x 176mm (approx. 11-7/8" x 7"). Some very faint surface creasing, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 37/025. Hyde (Ward Maps) 92/2.

COLE, Benjamin, 1697?-1783 : PORTSOKEN WARD WITH ITS DIVISIONS INTO PARISHES ACCORDING TO A NEW SURVEY.

[London] : 1755. A fine antique map of Portsoken Ward at the eastern edge of the City of London, taking in The Minories, Petticoat Lane, Houndsditch, Whitechapel (Aldgate High Street) and St. Botolph Aldgate. The map is decorated with a handsome rococo title-piece, the arms of the then alderman (Sir William Calvert) and a compass rose. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland's "History of London" (London : 1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 369 x 228mm (approx. 14-1/2" x 9"). Some faint surface creasing and faint discolouration to lower margin, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 38/037. Hyde (Ward Maps) 93.

[SMITH, John Thomas, 1766-1833] : THE OLD FOUNTAIN IN THE MINORIES.

London : N.Smith, & J.T.Smith, 1798. A charming antique print of the old inn taken down in 1793 - an engraved caption below the image gives a historical note. The inn used to stand on the east side of the Minories a little to the north of St. Clare Street, more or less opposite the top of India Street. Engraved by John Thomas "Antiquity" Smith, draughtsman, etcher, author, scholar and later Keeper of Prints at the British Museum, and co-published with his father, Nathaniel Smith the "antient printseller", as part of their "Antiquities of London and Environs" series (1791-1800).
Etching and engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 203 x 155mm (approx. 8" x 6"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 70/066.
