[BLOME, Richard, 1635-1705] : [CITY OF LONDON] PORTSOKEN WARD BEING PART OF THE PARISH OF ST. BUTTOLPHS ALDGATE, TAKEN FROM THE LAST SURVEY, WITH CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS. [London : 1720]. A fine antique map of Portsoken Ward at the eastern edge of the City of London, taking in The Minories, Petticoat Lane, Houndsditch, Whitechapel (Aldgate High Street) and St. Botolph Aldgate. The map is decorated with a wreathed cartouche and a numbered index gives the names of over eighty of the smaller courts and alleys. Originally produced by Richard Blome in the late seventeenth century, the map remained unpublished until the present version appeared with the 1720 edition of John Stow's "Survey of London". A fine antique map of Portsoken Ward at the eastern edge of the City of London, taking in The Minories, Petticoat Lane, Houndsditch, Whitechapel (Aldgate High Street) and St. Botolph Aldgate. The map is decorated with a handsome rococo title-piece, the arms of the then alderman (Sir William Calvert) and a compass rose. [SMITH, John Thomas, 1766-1833] : THE OLD FOUNTAIN IN THE MINORIES. London : N.Smith, & J.T.Smith, 1798. A charming antique print of the old inn taken down in 1793 - an engraved caption below the image gives a historical note. The inn used to stand on the east side of the Minories a little to the north of St. Clare Street, more or less opposite the top of India Street. Engraved by John Thomas "Antiquity" Smith, draughtsman, etcher, author, scholar and later Keeper of Prints at the British Museum, and co-published with his father, Nathaniel Smith the "antient printseller", as part of their "Antiquities of London and Environs" series (1791-1800).
