BARTLETT, William Henry, 1809-1854 : HADLEIGH CASTLE, ESSEX, LOOKING TOWARDS SHEERNESS.

London : George Virtue, 1833. An attractive antique print – villagers harvesting in the foreground – the castle and the estuary beyond. Engraved by William Watkins (fl.1828-1848) from an original study by William Henry Bartlett. Originally produced for “The History and Topography of Essex” published in parts from 1831 onwards.
Steel line engraving on india paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 115 x 163mm (approx. 4-1/2” x 6-3/8”). Faint wrinkling to india paper in lower margin, but a very good and sharp impression in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

OWEN, Samuel, 1768-1857 : LEIGH, TAKEN NEAR SOUTHEND.

London : Vernor, Hood & Sharpe; and W. Cooke, 1809. A most attractive antique print – a delicate etching of a distant view of Leigh along the shore. Etched by William Bernard Cooke (1778-1855) from an original study by Samuel Owen and originally produced for Owen’s first series of Thames views – “The Thames” (London : 1809-1811).
Etching and line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 130 x 191mm (approx. 5-1/8” x 7-1/2”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 106/082.

London : Vernor, Hood & Sharpe; and W. Cooke, 1810. A delightful antique print – early nineteenth-century Southend seen from the foot of the cliffs – a small boat pulling to the shore. Etched by William Bernard Cooke (1778-1855) from an original study by Samuel Owen and originally produced for Owen’s first series of Thames views – “The Thames” (London : 1809-1811).
Etching and line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 130 x 195mm (approx. 5-1/8” x 7-5/8”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 106/083.
