[BLOME, Richard, 1635-1705] : A MAPP OF THE PARISHES OF ST. SAVIOURS SOUTHWARK AND ST. GEORGES TAKEN FROM YE LAST SURVEY WITH CORRECTIONS. [London : for A. Churchill, J. Knapton & others, 1720]. A fine antique map - an eighteenth-century depiction of the Southwark parishes of St. Saviour and St. George, taking in the southern end of London Bridge, the original St. Thomas Hospital, the Marshalsea and King's Bench prisons, Southwark Cathedral, Bankside, Clink Street, Rose Alley and the area of the Elizabethan theatres, and westwards to the sites of the modern Falcon Point and Tate Modern. A numbered key gives the names of 100 of the smaller side-streets, courts and alleys. Originally produced by Richard Blome (1635-1705) in the late seventeenth century, the map remained unpublished until the present version appeared with the 1720 edition of John Stow's "Survey of London". £250 To confirm availability and to purchase this map please note the stock number 23383 and go to the database.
