[KIP, Johannes, 1652-1722] : ST. THOMAS HOSPITALL IN SOUTHWARK. [London : 1720]. A handsome antique print - a bird's-eye view of the interior courtyards of the old eighteenth-century St. Thomas's Hospital south of London Bridge. The engraving - the earliest recorded of the hospital - is generally ascribed to Johannes Kip, who engraved most of the other views in this series. Part of the tower was once used as an operating theatre for St. Thomas's Hospital. Originally produced for the part-work series "Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views" (London : 1810-1823) - "the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building" (Adams).
