HOLLIS, George, 1793-1842 : [THREADNEEDLE STREET] CHURCHES OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW AND ST. BENET FINK, LONDON.

London : 1840. An interesting and uncommon antique print - Threadneedle Street, the corner of the Bank of England and the two opposing Wren churches of St. Bartholomew-by-the-Exchange and St. Benet Fink - and to the right of the view clearance work on the rubble of the old Royal Exchange, destroyed by fire in 1838. Both churches were to disappear in the expansion and rebuilding on the Royal Exchange site. Originally produced to accompany the "Gentleman's Magazine" of May 1840.
Steel engraving on paper. Engraved surface 145 x 101mm (approx. 5-3/4" x 4"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

[London : 1878 (or later)]. An antique print of the old ten-sided Wren church that used to stand on Threadneedle Street - as seen from the foot of Broad Street - with the old Royal Exchange beyond. Engraved from a study (based on earlier sources) by William Henry Prior and originally produced for the part-work "Old and New London" (London : 1873-1878).
Wood engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 144 x 107mm (approx. 5-3/4" x 4-1/4"). Text on verso. In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print.

SHEPHERD, George Sidney, 1784-1862 : ST. BENNET FINCK.

London : J. Booth, 1811. A well-worked antique print - a view looking down Old Broad Street to the junction with Threadneedle Street - the ten-sided Wren church of St. Benet Fink in the foreground, the North Gate of the Royal Exchange beyond. The church was demolished in 1842-1844 to make way for the rebuilding of the Exchange. Engraved by J. T. Wedgwood (1783-1856) from an original pencil and watercolour drawing (now in the Guildhall Library) by George Sidney Shepherd. Originally produced for the part-work series "Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views" (London : 1810-1823) - "the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building" (Adams). Below the image are four lines of explanatory text.
Copper line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 264 x 165mm (approx. 10-1/2" x 6-1/2"). A few faint marks, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 129/024.

[London : Jones & Co., 1831]. A pleasant antique print of the old Wren church that used to stand on Threadneedle Street - as seen from the foot of Broad Street - with the old Royal Exchange beyond. Engraved by James Charles Armytage (1802-1897) from an original study (now in the Museum of London) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. Originally produced for Shepherd's part-work series "London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century" (London : 1829-1832).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 108 x 68mm (approx. 4-1/4" x 2-5/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 161/152.
