ANTIQUE PRINT: ST. JAMES’S PLACE : CHERRIES.

CRAIG, William Marshall : ST. JAMES’S PLACE : CHERRIES.

London : Richard Phillips, 1804. A charming antique print – a barrow-woman cries her cherries in front of St. James’s Palace. Other and more expensive varieties like the early season May Duke could only be had from the markets and shops. Engraved from an original study by William Marshall Craig (fl.1788-1828), water-colour painter to Queen Charlotte. Originally produced for Phillips’ part-work “Modern London : Being the History and Present State of the British Metropolis” (London : 1804).
