London : Tombleson & Co., [1833]. A fine antique print - a view of Thomas Telford's dock, opened in 1828 - the scene set in an intricately engraved decorative border of rigging, buoys, anchors, etc. Engraved by James Tingle (1801-1858) from an original study by Frederick Calvert (fl.1815-1845). Originally published with the part-work series "Tombleson's Views of the Thames and Medway" (London : 1833-1834).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 158 x 185mm (approx. 6-1/4" x 7-1/4"). A few faint marks and surface creases, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 178/060.

Engraved by Charles Pye (1777-1864) from an original study by John Preston Neale, and originally produced for the part-work "Beauties of England and Wales" (1801-1816).

PEARSON, William : ST. KATHERINE'S, TOWER.

[London : J. Booth, ca.1814]. A handsome antique print - a view of the ancient church of St. Katherine, shortly before it was demolished to make way for St. Katherine's Docks. Engraved by W. Preston from an original drawing (now in the Guildhall Library) by William Pearson (fl.1798-1813). Originally produced for the part-work series "Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views" (London : 1810-1823) - "the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building" (Adams). Below the image are several lines of explanatory text, recording how the church was saved from riot and "the effects of error and intoxication".
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 229 x 203mm (approx. 9" x 8"). Trimmed a little tight at foot, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 129/062.

Engraved by Henry Jorden (fl.1828-1836) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of 19th century London. From Shepherd's series "London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century" (London 1829-1832).
Steel line engraving on india paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 109 x 153mm (approx. 4-1/4" x 6"). Laid down on modern paper; some very minor marks to margins, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 161/150.

A delightful antique print - a delicate etching of labourers straining with the huge blocks of stone, the sprawl of excavations for the new dock, and the Tower of London dominating the distant skyline. Etched by George Cooke (1781-1834) from an original study by the well-known Clarkson Stanfield R.A. Originally produced for Cooke's part-work "Views in London and its Vicinity" series (London : 1826-1834).
