A fine antique print - a view of Thomas Telford's dock, opened in 1828 - the scene set in an intricately engraved decorative border of rigging, buoys, anchors, etc. Engraved by James Tingle (1801-1858) from an original study by Frederick Calvert (fl.1815-1845). Originally published with the part-work series "Tombleson's Views of the Thames and Medway" (London 1833-1834).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 158 x 185mm (approx. 6-1/4" x 7-1/4"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 178/060.

[London : 1720]. An attractive eighteenth century map of the area lying just to the east of the City of London, extending from Crutched Friars and the church of Allhallows Barking across past the Tower of London and the sites of the present Tower Bridge and St. Katherine's Dock to the Hermitage, and including Tower Hill, East Smithfield, etc. A keyed table gives the names of a further sixty-five smaller streets and alleys. Originally produced for the 1720 edition of John Stow's "Survey of London".
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 285 x 358mm (approx. 11-1/4" x 14-1/8"). Faint old fold and minor creases; paper thinned in one small area, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 25/008.

A delightful antique print - a delicate etching of labourers straining with the huge blocks of stone, the sprawl of excavations for the new dock, and the Tower of London dominating the distant skyline. Etched by George Cooke (1781-1834) from an original study by the well-known Clarkson Stanfield R.A. Originally produced for Cooke's part-work "Views in London and its Vicinity" series (London : 1826-1834).
