CONEY, John, 1786-1833 : ST. MARY ABCHURCH. UNITED WITH ST. LAWRENCE POUNTNEY.
London : J. Booth, 1812. A handsome antique print – an elegant elevation of the Wren church of St. Mary Abchurch, off Cannon Street, with its tower and leaded spire. Etched and engraved by Joseph Skelton (1783-1871) from an original drawing (now in the British Museum) by John Coney. Originally produced for the part-work series “Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views” (1810-1823) – “the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building” (Adams). Below the image are several lines of explanatory text.
