BACON, G.W. (George Washington), 1830-1922 - publisher : BACON'S MAP OF SUSSEX REVISED ACCORDING TO THE LATEST ORDNANCE SURVEY. DIVIDED INTO FIVE MILE SQUARES.

London : G.W.Bacon & Co., [ca.1900]. A separately published map of the county intended for cyclists, marking both "hills to be ridden with caution" and "hills dangerous", including notes of recommended cycling routes, etc. On a scale of just over three miles to the inch, the map also includes large portions of Surrey (as far north as Croydon) and Kent (including Sevenoaks, Maidstone, etc). Bound with a twelve-page guide to the county, an index to the map, etc.
Lithograph on paper. Original printed colour. Printed surface 443 x 610mm (approx. 17-3/8" x 24"). Mounted on linen and folding into the original pictorial cloth case, depicting two cyclists paused by a river; a few faint spots, but in very good state.

GREAM, Thomas : A TOPOGRAPHICAL MAP OF THE COUNTY OF SUSSEX; REDUCED FROM THE LARGE SURVEY IN FOUR SHEETS, BY THOMAS GREAM.

London : W. Faden, 1799. The first edition of this handsome separately published map of Sussex, based on the William Gardner, Thomas Yeakell and Thomas Gream four-sheet map of 1795, and here in a reduction engraved by John Palmer with the scale reduced to four-tenths of an inch to the mile.
Copper line engraving on paper. Original hand colour. Engraved surface 367 x 782mm (approx. 14-1/2" x 30-3/4"). Dissected, mounted on linen, and folding into the original marbled slip-case with William Faden's engraved label; a few faint marks, minor holing to linen backing, slip-case much worn, but the map in a clean and sharp impression and overall in very good state. WALKER, J. & C. (WALKER, John, 1787-1873 & WALKER, Charles, fl.1821-1873) : SUSSEX.

London : J. & C. Walker, [ca.1860]. A clearly engraved map of the county from the Admiralty engravers John & Charles Walker - on a scale of some five miles to the inch, particular attention being given to the newly built railways. Originally published in 1835, but here in a later and updated version.
Line engraving on paper, with original hand colour. Engraved surface 325 x 398mm (approx. 12-3/4" x 15-5/8"). Folding into a contemporary glazed paper case with printed label; slight split to foot of central fold; small hole at centre; case a little rubbed, but overall in nice condition for a fragile item. Kingsley 108.xviii.
