London : Faber & Faber, (1957). First edition : [one of 2,000 copies]. His uncommon first book – a collection of forty poems, dedicated to Sylvia Plath, whom he had married the previous year. An attractive association copy – the review copy sent to fellow poet Roy Fuller (1912-1991), with the publishers’ review slip, Fuller’s pencilled notes on the reverse of the slip, and his inked ownership inscription. Fuller’s review appeared in the “London Magazine” in January 1958.
Demy 8vo (23cm). [ii],(60),[ii]pp. Original blue cloth, lettered in yellow; a very good copy in the Berthold Wolpe dust-jacket – also very good, with some minimal restoration to tips. Sagar A1.

First edition : limited to 150 copies, “of which seventy-five numbered copies, signed by the author are for sale” – the present example being one these numbered and signed copies. Printed at the Trigram Press. Although not marked as such in any way, this copy (No. 43) formerly belonged to the poet Sir Stephen Spender (1909-1995).
Oblong crown 4to (20cm). [ii],[24],[ii]pp – the text printed on double leaves and numbered 1-22 in columns. Original matt black wrappers, ruled and lettered in glossy black; very good in the original matching paper portfolio – the latter lightly used and slightly frayed.
