[BOWEN, Thomas, 1733?-1790] : TOWER STREET WARD DIVIDED INTO ITS PARISHES ACCORDING TO A LATE SURVEY.

[London : R. Baldwin], 1772. A fine antique map of Tower Street Ward at the south-east corner of the City of London, taking in (Lower) Thames Street, the Custom House, the churches of St. Dunstan in the East, Allhallows Barking and St. Olave Hart Street, (Great) Tower Street, Mark Lane, Mincing Lane and Seething Lane. The map is decorated with a rococo cartouche and the arms of the contemporary alderman, Samuel Turner. Originally produced for John Noorthouck's part-work "A New History of London including Westminster and Southwark" (London : 1772-1773). Other maps in this series were engraved by Thomas Bowen and this would also appear to be his work.
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 174 x 225mm (approx. 6-7/8" x 8-7/8"). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 51/027. Hyde (Ward Maps) 103.

COLE, Benjamin, fl.1723-1767 : TOWER STREET WARD WITH THEIR DIVISIONS INTO PARISHES ACCORDING TO A NEW SURVEY.

[London : 1756]. A fine eighteenth-century map of Tower Street Ward at the south-eastern corner of the City of London, taking in (Lower) Thames Street, the Custom House, the churches of St. Dunstan in the East, Allhallows Barking and St. Olave Hart Street, (Great) Tower Street, Mark Lane, Mincing Lane and Seething Lane. The map is decorated with a rococo cartouche, the arms of the contemporary alderman (Thomas Chitty) and elevations of East India House and Westminster Hall. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland's "History of London" (London : 1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 368 x 233mm (approx. 14-3/8" x 9-1/8"). Faint diagonal crease just touching one corner; mild browning and discolouration to left-hand edge; trimmed a little close, but otherwise in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. An attractive eighteenth century map of Tower Liberty - the principal map showing the moated Tower of London, with the immediately adjacent streets on Tower Hill, and the detached portions of the Liberty - in Little Minories, Spitalfields (the Gun Street, Steward Street and Artillery Lane area), and around Marine (Wellclose) Square - shown in three separate insets. Originally published with the 1720 edition of John Stow's "Survey of London".
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 281 x 353mm (approx. 11" x 13-7/8"). Faint original fold, but in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map. Adams 25/006.
