[MOULE, Thomas, 1784-1851] : WILTSHIRE. [London : George Virtue, ca.1850]. A most attractive antique map of the county, decorated with a "gothick" architectural border, vignette views of Salisbury and Stonehenge, coats of arms, etc. Originally engraved in 1836, the present version, showing some development of the railway system, is dated to about 1850. Originally engraved by William Schmollinger (fl.1831-1837) for the part-work "English Counties Delineated" (London : 1830-1837) prepared by the antiquary Thomas Moule. SOLD |

A clearly engraved map of the county from the Admiralty engravers John & Charles Walker - on a scale of just under four miles to the inch, particular attention being given to the newly built railways.
