BURTON, Charles : WIMBLEDON CHURCH, S-W. [London : Privately published, 1824]. A scarce and handsome antique print of the eighteenth-century parish church of St. Mary at Wimbledon, extensively rebuilt by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1840s. Below the image is a simple ground plan of the church. Lithographed from a study by Charles Burton and originally produced for Charles Thomas Cracklow's "Lithographic Views of all the Churches and Chapels of Ease in the County of Surrey" 1823-1824. HOPKINS, Arthur, 1848-1930 : THE ALL-ENGLAND CROQUET CLUB AT WIMBLEDON. [London : Illustrated London News 1870]. A handsome early croquet print - a fashionably dressed and pretty young lady lines up a shot, her plainer opponent (with parasol) looks on with an expression of alarm or perhaps simply condescension, a gentleman keeps score, spectators look tense or bored. Engraved from an original sketch by the watercolourist and illustrator Arthur Hopkins - brother of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins.
