Engraved from a study by William Henry Boot and originally produced for the part-work “Greater London : A Narrative of its History, its People and its Places” published between 1882 and 1884.

FIRTH, C.M. (Charles Mousley), 1792-1869 : PLAN OF THE HOLWOOD ESTATE, NEAR BROMLEY, KENT. FOR SALE BY MESS.RS HOGGART, NORTON & TRIST.

[London : Hoggart, Norton & Trist], 1851. An auction map of a large swathe of Kent between Keston and Farnborough Commons – over 426 acres comprising the Holwood Park Estate, at one time belonging to William Pitt the Younger (1759-1806). Presented at large scale and divided into six lots, extending from Keston church northwards past Caesar’s Camp to Farnborough Lodge, with a further portion of land to the east of Shire Lane. Complete with the detailed twelve-page auction “Particulars of Holwood Park, a Beautiful Freehold Estate, Land Tax Redeemed ...”.
Lithograph on paper, with original hand colour. Vignette view of Holwood House. Printed surface 794 x 517mm (approx. 31-1/4” by 20-1/4”). Old folds and slight creases; a couple of short tears and one longer one; slight damage to central vertical fold, apparently caused by the complete excision of Lot Five from the auction particulars, presumably by a prospective purchaser. No copy located in any of the major libraries.

Engraved by Henry Adlard (1799-1893) from a drawing by the landscape painter George Sidney Shepherd. Originally produced for the “England’s Topographer” series of Kent views (London : 1828-1831).
