Engraved by Charles Mottram (1807-1876) from an original study by William Henry Bartlett. Originally produced for “The History and Topography of Essex” published in parts from 1831 onwards.

[London : 1860]. A pleasant small antique print – sheep graze before the castle. Three lines of text below the image recount the sufferings of Colchester in the Civil War. Originally produced for Thomas Dugdale’s part-work survey published as “The Curiosities of Great Britain” or “England Delineated” in various formats between 1838 and 1860.

London : J. Mawman, 1821. A handsome antique print – a panoramic prospect of Colchester as it stood in the seventeenth century. The print is based based on an image found in an Italian manuscript published by Mawman as the “Travels of Cosmo the Third, Grand Duke of Tuscany, through England, during the Reign of King Charles the Second (1669)” (London : 1821). The work was accompanied by a number of views "as delineated at that period by artists in the suite of Cosmo".
