MANESSON-MALLET, Allain, 1630-1706 : EDIMBOURG.
[Frankfurt : 1685]. A striking antique print offering a pleasant panoramic image of seventeenth-century Edinburgh – from the French mathematician, engineer and surveyor Allain Manesson-Mallet. Originally produced for Mallet’s “Description de l’Univers” (Paris : 1683) and here in a slightly later impression produced for the German edition, published as “Beschreibung des Gantzen Welt-Kreisses” (Frankfurt : 1684-1685).
SWANSTON, George Heriot, fl.1841-1860 : EDINBURGH & LEITH.
London & Edinburgh : A. Fullarton & Co., 1852. An attractive and delicately engraved plan of Edinburgh and Leith in the mid nineteenth century. Drawn and engraved by the Edinburgh engraver George Heriot Swanston and originally produced for Fullarton’s serially published "A Gazetteer of the World" (1850-1856).
