PROUT, Samuel, 1783-1852 : MARKS HALL, ESSEX.
London : Vernor & Hood; J. Storer & J. Greig, 1805. A very pleasant antique print – “the manorial residence of the ancient lordship of Marks ... [it] stands about two miles west from the town of Romford. It is a very ancient structure of the quadrangular form, chiefly composed of timber and plaster, and is completely encircled by a moat, the water of which comes close up to the walls, and gives it a most romantic appearance”. Engraved by John Greig (fl.1800-1843) from an original study by Samuel Prout. Originally produced for the part-work “Select Views of London and its Environs : Containing a Collection of Highly Finished Engravings” (1804-1805).
