BARTHOLOMEW, John, 1831-1893 : LEEDS. FROM ORDNANCE & ACTUAL SURVEY.

London & Edinburgh : A. Fullarton & Co., [ca.1860]. A neatly worked nineteenth-century town-plan of Leeds on a scale of four inches to the mile, drawn and engraved by John Bartholomew for an unidentified edition of one of the Fullarton gazetteers.
Lithograph on paper. Original hand colour, with additional later colour to border. Printed surface 235 x 318mm (approx. 9-1/4” x 12-1/2”). The map split and neatly repaired along central fold, without loss of detail; small mark in lower margin, but overall in good and clean condition. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

[MOULE, Thomas, 1784-1851] : YORKSHIRE, EAST RIDING.

[London : George Virtue, 1836]. A most attractive antique map of the East Riding, decorated with a “gothick” architectural border, an inset view of Beverley Minster, a white rose, coats of arms, etc. Originally engraved in 1836 by William Schmollinger (1811?-1869) for Thomas Moule’s part-work series “The English Counties Delineated” (1830-1837) – and here in very early state, before the addition of railways, etc.
Steel line engraving on paper. Original hand colour. Engraved surface 199 x 268mm (approx. 7-7/8” x 10-5/8”). A few very faint marks and specks, but overall in very good and clean state. Rare in this early state and with original colour. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

A most attractive antique map of the East Riding, originally engraved by William Schmollinger (1811?-1869) for the part-work “The English Counties Delineated” (1830-1837) prepared by the antiquary Thomas Moule. Decorated with a “gothick” architectural border, an inset view of Beverley, a white rose, coats of arms, etc. Originally engraved in 1836, the present version, showing some development of the railway system, is dated to about 1850.
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 199 x 268mm (approx. 7-7/8” x 10-5/8”). A few very faint marks, but still in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

ANTIQUE MAP: THE CITY OF YORK.

SAYER, J.P. (John Pearson), 1901-1984 : THE CITY OF YORK.

[London : George Newnes, 1946]. An attractive pictorial map, with historical notes and vignettes, of the centre of York. On the verso of the map are further notes and views, with a larger view of Walmgate Bar in the nineteenth century. Originally produced for the “Strand Magazine” – Jack Sayer produced a number of similar maps used as railway posters in the interwar years.
Coloured lithograph on paper. Printed surface 257 x 185mm (approx. 10-1/8” x 7-1/4”. Original horizontal fold; slight nick and a couple of tiny repaired staple holes to fold, but otherwise in very good and clean state.
